The folders you allowed

Files Check browses those folders, plus Temporary Trash. Open several folders in tabs. Pin a subfolder you return to. Switch between a list and a grid. Search this folder, or this folder and the folders inside it, including a phrase to leave out. Filter by type, date, or size. Ruby remembers the last place you were in each folder.

Select a file and the preview stays beside the list. Pop it into a large viewer. Read the layout or the text. On the Mac, audio and video play in that preview. Get Info shows the name, kind, size, and path. Copy the path, or open the file in Finder.

Scan, sketch, photo, upload

On the iPhone or iPad, Scan Document uses the camera. The Mac reads the page and puts the words in your draft, as a table when the page is a form. Ask what is in the picture in the same message and the Mac describes it too.

Scan to Folder is the other scanner. Those pages become a PDF in the folder you are browsing. Sketch is the sketch pad: draw with Apple Pencil or a finger. Sketch to Folder saves the drawing in that folder. A sketch from chat can also land in a Sketches folder inside the place you chose for saves.

Take a photo, or choose one you already have. On the Mac, Import Photo can pull a picture from a nearby iPhone, or you pick an image or a PDF already on the Mac. In the browser, Upload puts any file in the folder you are in. Each of those waits until you approve it.

Read it, then change it

Edit a text or code file in Ruby, with line numbers and color for the code, then save. That save waits for approval. Summarize in Chat answers from the file with the local model, and a later question in that same chat still has the excerpt.

Include in Chat is the longer grant. After you approve a file or a folder, later questions can retrieve it. New or changed text in an included folder is picked up on the next question. If two files match, Ruby asks which one. The phone inherits that index. It does not pick the folders.

PDF tools

Export the preview as a PDF. On a PDF itself, PDF Tools rotate the file you are looking at, or save a new copy when you compress, pull pages out, reorder them, merge several PDFs, or add a text layer the Mac can read. Merge on the phone and in the browser starts from the PDFs you checked, in the order you chose.

The rest of the folder

Make a new folder. Zip one file or several. Unzip an archive. Copy, rename, or bulk-rename with a preview of the new names before anything is written. Move by picking a folder in the tree, not by typing a path. Trash uses the Mac trash, or Temporary Trash when the drive has none. Restore from there, back to the original folder. Empty Temporary Trash is its own approval.

Tie it to a person, or leave with a new document

Link a file to someone’s dossier. Jump browse to that person’s folder. File a finished document into their folder, including a subfolder you pick at the time. Set the folder you are in as the place memos save.

In chat, attach or read a PDF, an Office file, an image, or a transcript. A reply can become a memo, a spreadsheet, or a Gantt chart. Canvas drafts a page or some code beside the chat. The phone, iPad, browser, and a second Mac can open, download, share, or copy that draft.
